Enhanced Risk Scoring from Motus Helps Deliver Safer Drivers

Motus, a leader in mileage reimbursement and driver management technologies, announced enhanced risk scoring capabilities within the Motus Driver Safety Solutions, which offers individualized safety programs that give mobile workers the training they need to avoid hazards on the road.

Focused on Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks, these new features give managers further control over how they evaluate the safety of current and prospective mobile workers based on their driving record.

This announcement comes in response to recent research which identified that 40 percent of all motor vehicle accidents are work-related. Yet, only 19.5 percent of companies mandate a driver safety program for their mobile workers. This is not only dangerous for mobile workers, but it can also be harmful to an organization’s bottom line. The average cost to an employer when an employee has an on-the-job crash that results in an injury is $74,000, and motor vehicle accidents cost employers $56 billion each year.

For each processed MVR, employers are provided with a score and risk profile based on each driver’s records, which are delivered within 24-48 hours. Each violation is scored according to type, severity and number of occurrences. In addition, employers can now pre-assess drivers’ risk scores before making a hire. Altogether, Motus Driver Safety Solutions have been shown to reduce collision rates by an average of 35 percent.
