Ford Connected Vehicle Systems Now Available In Europe

Ford has announced that its connected vehicle systems are coming to Europe through Ford Commercial Solutions: a unit within Ford Smart Mobility.

The goal is to help fleet owners track their vehicles.

First up is Ford Telematics, aimed at smaller fleets. It collects information from vehicles and the data is then transferred to the Ford web-based portal. In that way managers can monitor fleets in near real-time for a vista into performance.

Ford also has Ford Data Services for fleets already using their own or a third-party system. It liaises with the modem already built into the vehicles. The vehicle data then goes directly to the cloud without the need for third-party hardware, management or installation. At that point, the vehicle data is delivered to a fleet’s IT system or a third-party provider.

The Ford connected vehicle systems products were first launched in the United States in June. One difference is that the Ford Data Service is also targeted to law enforcement fleets.

Next up: Ford plans to launch these  data products in Germany and the UK, with additional countries to follow.
