Latest Safety Technologies in Trucks on Demo by PacLease

| March 11, 2014

PACCARTo address growing market demand for even greater safety technology in trucking, PACCAR Leasing Company (PacLease) is showcasing the Kenworth T680 and Peterbilt 579 – among the most aerodynamic models — loaded with safety technology and other components to bring productivity to the forefront.

The “Technology Demo” trucks are on display at the Truck Rental and Leasing Association’s annual meeting, being held this week (March 10-14) in Scottsdale, Ariz.

“A recent survey of National Private Truck Council members showed increased interest in outfitting trucks with safety technology,” said Michelle Harry, PACCAR Leasing’s director of marketing. “We looked at each of those trends and what fleets were seeking, then worked in partnership with Bendix and PeopleNet to showcase what’s possible with a leased truck from PacLease.”

According to Harry, the PacLease “demo” trucks feature:

  • Bendix equipped air disc brakes, which reduce stopping distance by more that 20 feet over today’s high performance drum brakes
  • an ESP electronic stability system for rollover and jackknife prevention
  • Wingman Advanced collision mitigation technology, which detects objects up to 500 feet in front of the truck and provides braking intervention if needed
  • BlindSpotter side object detection, which provides audible and visual alerts if there is a vehicle in the truck’s blind spot AutoVue lane departure, which tracks lane markings while providing a “rumble strip” noise should the vehicle drift off course, and
  • SmarTire tire pressure monitoring, which provides low pressure and high temperature tire alerts.

The trucks also feature PacTrac – PacLease’s on board telematics system, powered by PeopleNet. The PacTrac system features an advanced onboard event recorder, eDriver Logs, fault code monitoring, and driver communication.

“In addition, the system provides real-time diagnostic information from all the Bendix technology,” said Harry.

“The data generated from PacTrac,” he noted, “and the Bendix safety systems are tied together; a report can then be generated to show driver performance, plus relay any situations where the Bendix systems triggered a driver alert.”
