Zonar to Support 34-hour Restart in HOS

Zonar, provider of electronic fleet inspection, tracking and operations solutions for public and private fleets, will begin updating ZLogs, its hours-of-service application (HOS) on the Zonar 2020 Mobile Communications Tablet.

The update is in response to a Congressional suspension of a rule added to HOS regulations and in place since July 1, 2013. The rule required a qualifying restart to contain two off-duty periods between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. and that it only be used once every 168 hours (or seven days).

An amendment to the federal government’s 2015 budget appropriations bill, which was signed into law by President Obama on Dec. 16, repealed that rule, temporarily reverting it to the simple 34-hour restart in effect from 2003 to June 2013. The repeal will expire on Sept. 30, 2015.

The updates to ZLogs will be done over the air and should have minimal impact on operations, according to Fred Fakkema, vice president of compliance for Zonar.
