Canadian Freight Volumes Pick up Marginally, Year Looks Strong

FreightTransCore Link Logistics Canadian freight volumes rose two percent from April to May. Even with this modest monthly increase, year-over-year volumes continue their impressive rise, increasing 31 percent over May 2013.

TransCore’s Canadian Freight Index measures trends from roughly 5,000 of Canada’s trucking companies.  Highlights include:

  • Cross-border postings accounted for 69 percent of total load volumes.
  • Cross-border loads originating in Canada destined to the United States climbed a significant 70 percent year-over-year.
  • Cross-border loads originating in the United States destined for provinces within Canada increased 10 percent year-over-year.
  • The top five states of origin for loads destined to Canada ordered from highest to lowest total loads were Ohio, Texas, California, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
