New WABCO Safety Systems Deployed in Commercial Vehicle Platforms
WABCO (NYSE: WBC), a leading innovator and global supplier of technologies that improve the safety and efficiency of commercial vehicles, announced that it has successfully homologated advanced safety systems on the leading commercial vehicle platforms of two global coach manufacturers headquartered in Europe.
WABCO’s OnGuardACTIVE™ advanced emergency braking system and OnLane™ lane departure warning system will enable coach builders Van Hool of Belgium and VDL Bus & Coach of the Netherlands to be fully compliant with European regulation on advanced driver assistance systems taking effect on November 1, 2015.
Both coach manufacturers have already launched series production of respective vehicle platforms for European markets, featuring WABCO’s industry-leading safety technologies such as: WABCO’s OnGuardACTIVE for trucks and buses detects moving, stopping and stationary vehicles ahead. It utilizes a powerful 77GHz radar sensor that maintains the system’s high performance in all seasons and alerts the driver of potentially critical driving situations via acoustic, visual and haptic signals.
Should the vehicle operator fail to take corrective action, OnGuardACTIVE autonomously applies the brakes and can bring the vehicle to a complete stop, helping to prevent or mitigate impending rear-end collisions.
WABCO’s OnLane is a camera-based lane departure warning system. Once it detects an unintended lane drift, OnLane prompts the driver via acoustic, visual and haptic signals to take corrective measures. The system also features the advanced option of driver drowsiness alert.
OnLane continuously monitors the vehicle’s position within lane markings and detects weaving driving behavior that could indicate driver drowsiness. This functionality is particularly vital for buses or coaches as it helps to optimize passenger, driver, and road user safety.
