Canadian Freight Volumes Pick up in August

TransCore Link Logistics volumes saw a double-digit increase for the month of August after a “traditional” mid-year decline in volumes in July. When compared, month-over-month and year-over-year load volumes picked up by 12 percent.

Intra-Canada load volumes represented 31 percent of the total volumes and jumped 23 percent compared to August 2015. Cross-border loads averaged 65 percent of the total data submitted by Loadlink’s Canadian-based customers, and improved compared to last year. Loads leaving Canada were higher by 16 percent, and loads coming into Canada were up by four percent year-over-year.

Equipment capacity increased 10 percent month-over-month and was up 13 percent year-over-year. The equipment-to-load ratio decreased to 3.58 trucks for every load available, down from 3.62 in July. Year-over-year, this ratio increased three percent from 3.47 in August 2015.
