Commercial Truck Market Off to Positive Start in 2018
According to commercial truck analysts at J.D. Power Valuation Services in their February 2018 Commercial Truck Guidelines Industry Update, the Class 8 market looked positive in early 2018.
December’s retail pricing was back up, and January’s auction results were similar to December’s despite limited activity. Medium-duty trucks had a notably up month.
Major findings in the monthly report note:
- January was typically slow volume-wise
- Pricing was stable
- Retail pricing back up
- Performance breaks 2 months of weak activity
- Medium duty segment is solid
- Performance figures point upward
Chris Visser, senior commercial truck analyst at J.D. Power Valuation Services, said, “Year-over-year, trucks 4 -6 years old that were sold in January ran 17.1 percent ahead of their counterparts a year ago. We’re still collecting data for comparison, so we’ll have more to say about this next month.”
