With the U.S. transportation sector accounting for 27 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions, fleet operators can’t wait until the new year to start setting sustainability goals. With just weeks left in 2021, there’s still have time to take these 3 small but impactful steps towards sustainability. 

1. Schedule your fleet for regular maintenance: During the busy holiday season, taking your fleet off the road can feel like a hindrance, but in the long run it will reduce their emissions. Something as minute as checking a fleet’s tire pressure will make it more efficient, decrease the risk of costly, unplanned repairs and extend its life span.

• Recycle common auto waste like used tires, scrap metal + motor oil: These materials frequently end up in the landfill but can easily be recycled or reused. For example, upholstered seat material can be harvested and turned into furniture, and oil can be refined, recycled and reused.

• Properly Dispose of motor fluids: fluids like antifreeze, coolant fluid, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid contain toxic chemicals and metals that often end up in soil and waterways. Properly disposing of + recycling them is one small way fleet operators can protect the planet and decrease emissions.
