Biden-Harris Administration Announces Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s First Bridge Investment Program Grants

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced the first round of grants from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s competitive Bridge Investment Program. U.S. Following that announcement, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg shared the news in interviews with local network affiliates across the country, and Acting Administrator Stephanie Pollack traveled to Minnesota and Pennsylvania to announce grants awarded in those states. These early planning grants, going to 23 projects in 23 states, will help fund early phases of project development to create a pipeline of bridge construction projects, one of many ways in which the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help build, repair, and replace tens of thousands of bridges in communities across the country.

In total, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Bridge Investment Program will make the single largest dedicated investment in bridges – $12.5 billion over five years, with nearly $2.4 billion available in Fiscal Year 2022, since the construction of the Interstate highway system.

On Wednesday, October 12, Acting Federal Highway Administrator Stephanie Pollack was joined by U.S. Representative Dean Phillips, City of Excelsior Acting Mayor Jennifer Caron and City of Greenwood Mayor Debra Kind to announce a $269,600 grant to Minnesota’s City of Excelsior in partnership with the City of Greenwood under the first round of grants from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s competitive Bridge Investment Program. The grant will help the two cities plan for improvements to the Minnetonka Boulevard Bridge over St. Alban’s Bay of Lake Minnetonka. The Bridge was built during the 1940’s and connects the cities of Excelsior and Greenwood.

Philadelphia, PA: Acting Federal Highway Administrator Stephanie Pollack Announces $1.56 Million Bridge Planning Grant to City of Philadelphia Funded by Bipartisan Infrastructure Law On Friday, October 14, Acting Federal Highway Administrator Stephanie Pollack was joined by representatives from the City of Philadelphia, Amtrak, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to announce a $1.56 million grant to Pennsylvania’s City of Philadelphia under the first round of grants from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s competitive Bridge Investment Program. The grant will help the City of Philadelphia fund a planning and feasibility study to rehabilitate 18 bridges located over electrified rail lines primarily operated by Amtrak and SEPTA.
