AASHTO Board Elects Tennessee’s Schroer, President
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ Board of Directors has elected Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer, as the association’s president.
After being appointed Tennessee DOT Commissioner in January, 2011 Schroer has served in several top committee positions at the association, and hopes to lead the efforts of AASHTO and state departments of transportation to work with the Trump Administration and Congress to enact an infrastructure package and a new long-term transportation reauthorization bill.
The impacts of new technologies such as autonomous, connected and electric vehicles on the
nation’s transportation infrastructure will also be a top priority.
Prior to joining Tennessee DOT, Schroer was mayor of his hometown of Franklin, Tennessee and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University and an MBA from the University of Tennessee.
Joining Shroer, is Carlos Braceras, who was elected as Vice President of The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
AASHTO Vice President Braceras has been the executive director of the Utah Department of Transportation, since May, 2013. A native of New Jersey, Braceras began his career at UDOT in 1986. Prior to his election as AASHTO Vice President, Braceras served as AASHTO Secretary-Treasurer.
Additionally, Scott Bennett, director of the Arkansas Department of Transportation, was elected Secretary-Treasurer.
AASHTO Secretary-Treasurer Bennett, has served as director of the Arkansas Department of Transportation since Sept. 2011. Bennett started his career at as a summer employee and over two decades worked his way into several top management positions including Section Head of Technical Services in 1995, Assistant Division Head of Planning and Research in 1996 and Assistant Chief Engineer for Planning in 2004. Bennett was inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineering in 2010.
