BigRoad Applauds FMCSA Revised Guidance Concerning Records of Duty

| July 14, 2014

BigRoadBigRoad has saluted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) newly revised guidance (49 CFR Part 295) concerning records of duty status (RODS) generated by logging software programs on laptop computers, tablets and smartphones.

The updated guidance confirms that BigRoad’s electronic logs are indeed official records of duty status under Federal Law.

“The FMCSA’s guidance recognizes the legitimate interest of the small fleets and owner operators who represent our membership,” says David Owen, President, National Association of Small Trucking Companies (NASTC).

“This guidance,” he continued, “will allow all of us to move off paper logs and adopt new low cost technology producing error-free electronic ‘paperwork.’ Crucially, it also makes verification easier for roadside enforcement officials, who are now permitted to accept the electronic logs as presented on a tablet or smartphone.”

Noted Sarah Beth Imperi, Director of Safety for Diamond Coach, a nationwide leader in the entertainment industry segment and a BigRoad user, “We love the accuracy and instant reporting that comes with electronic logs, allowing us to uphold the high safety rating necessary in our business.”
