CalAmp Introduces iOn Integrated Vehicle Telematics
CalAmp Telematics Cloud allows fleet managers and construction companies to better track mobile workforce and high-value, smaller-set assets
CalAmp iOn™ is an integrated cloud-based platform that enables seamless management of a diverse set of assets, from service vehicles to high-value equipment. The solution now allows service fleet, construction and rental equipment operators to not only track driver behavior and vehicle usage, but to also manage expensive associated portable assets through a single, easy-to-use CalAmp iOn platform. Providing a fully integrated view of the entire enterprise inventory helps drive greater workforce productivity and improve operational efficiency.
According to the National Equipment Register estimates, the value of construction equipment stolen each year is somewhere between $300 million to $1 billion. To address this issue, CalAmp has developed a cost-effective solution to ensure that valuable assets leave a construction site, rental yard or other location with their assigned service vehicle.
A CalAmp iOn Tag™ smart sensor can be affixed to any asset and paired with a CalAmp LMU telematics device installed on a vehicle. When an iOn Tag-enabled piece of equipment has broken the paired connection with the LMU, the fleet manager or driver will receive a real-time alert notification that the asset, such as a power tool, small generator or ladder, has been left behind. A flexible API interface allows telematics service providers and integrators to incorporate the vehicle telematics and asset data insights directly into their custom applications, enabling the development of powerful new connected vehicle and industrial asset ecosystems.
“We understand the day-to-day frustrations that come with keeping track of valuable tools and fleet assets,” said Paul Washicko, senior vice president of product management for CalAmp. “The iOn Tag-to-telematics device integration with CalAmp iOn simplifies fleet inventory management and allows construction and service fleet operators to analyze data from their vehicles and drivers all from the same application. By driving operational efficiencies, businesses can focus on meeting project deadlines and maximizing revenue potential.”
