Canadian Freight Index Shows Modest Gain in September

The TransCore Link Logistics Canadian Freight Index picked up modestly in September after two consecutive months of unflattering load volumes.

Compared to last month, load volumes increased seven percent, while year-over-year volumes withdrew 25 percent.

Third quarter saw load volumes fall off compared to the previous quarters, declining 22 percent from the second quarter and 28 percent compared to the same period last year. Intra-Canada load volumes represented 28 percent of the total volumes and slipped 19 percent year-over-year.

Cross-border loads leaving Canada decreased eight percent, and loads coming into Canada dropped 40 percent year-over-year. These volumes averaged 67 percent of the total data submitted by Loadlink’s Canadian-based customers.

 

The equipment capacity increased in September by two percent month-over-month and by 29 percent year-over-year. The equipment-to-load ratio declined to 3.29 from 3.47 in August. Year-over-year, this ratio increased 72 percent from 1.92 in September 2014.
