Canadian Freight Volumes Remain High
Following January’s record performance, TransCore Link Logistics Canadian Freight Index had another strong month.
February’s total load volumes dipped slightly by five percent compared to January; however, February had fewer shipping days.
As a daily average, loads for February were four percent higher than in January.
In fact, February had its highest year-over-year increase ever, an impressive 60 percent. This surpassed the previous February record set in 2010 with a 55 percent increase year-over-year.
A few additional details:
- Cross-border postings averaged 71 percent of total load volumes.
- Cross-border loads originating in Canada destined to the United States jumped significantly by 83 percent year-over-year.
- Cross-border loads originating in the United States destined for provinces within Canada climbed by 59 percent year-over-year.
- Intra-Canada load volumes represented 24 percent of the total volumes for February and increased considerably by 40 percent compared to the same period last year.
