Case Study: Ryder Keeps Anderson Race Management Running
How can a top fleet and vehicle rental company help keep a growing race management company on its feet and always on track?
The reality is that race events abound during the holiday season and Anderson Race Management — a Minnesota-based race management and special events company founded approximately 20 years ago — is managing events in the Midwest year-round with the help of Ryder.
Anderson began renting trucks from Ryder to ensure that its operations continue to run on time and to maintain its reputation as a reliable service provider. “With Ryder, we don’t have to worry about break-downs or being put behind schedule,” said Owner and President of Anderson Race Management, Mary Anderson. “Ryder’s services have been central to the business, relieving us of undue stress and pressure on our everyday operations.”
Anderson, which began in 1996, is operated by Ms. Anderson, a project manager, a media manager, and 50 seasonal contractors. Anderson worked in accounting for 12 years prior to starting her business, which she said emerged as a result of the volunteer work she did for the Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis. Volunteering for the marathon and serving on its board enabled Anderson to realize that her passion was ultimately tied to helping nonprofits.
Anderson Race Management has flourished since, especially in the midst of a trying economy that has led numerous nonprofits to turn to events to raise awareness for their cause. The business expanded this year with warehouse space and is currently renting 40 trucks a year from Ryder, with its peak season from April to October.
“The trucks are clean and dependable and the people we work with at Ryder are extremely helpful and polite,” said Anderson. “Ryder allows us to be as organized as we want to be—a huge necessity considering the nature of the work we do.”
Anderson Race Management is currently gearing up for the Securian Winter Run in January, an event that may be affected by the freezing winter temperatures already being felt across much of the country. Anderson said if it drops below negative 15 degrees they’ll have to shorten the race. The events company is also preparing for Chicago’s Hot Chocolate Run in April, and the Minnesota Senior Games in August—one of the state’s biggest events of the year for 2014.
