Crowd Source, On-Demand Drivers to Take on Professional Fleets
Kanga, a crowdsourced delivery platform launching in late March, has announced plans to hire numerous delivery drivers–with more than 100 specifically assigned to retail businesses–in the Atlanta area over the next six months.
The concept, which could ultimately complete with established commercial delivery fleets, works by allowing consumers or retail establishments to place a delivery order through an app, which quickly prompts local, vetted drivers to bid for and provide delivery service.
Kanga pays its drivers directly through the app using a Paypal account.
“We’re looking for drivers who are safe and who own reliable vehicles,” says Everett Steele, Kanga president and co-founder. “But we also want to attract people who are entrepreneurial by nature and understand the flexible and unique job opportunity that our technology provides.”
Kanga requires qualified drivers to have car insurance and a vehicle that complies with state laws. Drivers associated with Kanga’s retail partnerships must complete a more extensive vetting process and will be paid a flat fee plus mileage.
The company reports that it will offer these drivers the highest per hour earning of any of its competitors.
“Drivers can create their own schedule and availability as they choose, giving them total flexibility as to when and how they earn money,” Steele continues.
In this new business model, Kanga notes that it “seeks to disrupt the $86 billion courier and local delivery service industry.”
