Cummins Showcases Plan for Downtown Indianapolis
Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI), a global leader in the design, manufacture, distribution and service of diesel engines and natural gas engines and related technologies, has presented to the City of Indianapolis’ Metropolitan Development Commission its plan to locate the global distribution business headquarters in the heart of the Market East cultural district.
The building, which will include a distinctive 10-story office tower with retail on the first floor and a significant public greenspace, will be built on four acres where Market Square Arena previously stood. The Company expects to break ground on the building in early 2015 and open it in late 2016.
“We are excited to be in downtown Indianapolis, bringing with us the architectural legacy that Cummins has established in Columbus, Indiana, and around the world,” said Tom Linebarger, the Company’s Chairman and CEO.
Mayor Greg Ballard stated: “Cummins’ innovative design for its new downtown Indianapolis campus will serve as an anchor for redevelopment in the Market East district and bring new vitality to the area,” said Mayor Ballard. “This project raises the bar for architecture in Indy and will stand as a bold and visually compelling gateway into the city.”
