European-based PTV Group Adds Cloud-based Route Optimization Tool for Fleets
Logistics and traffic software specialist PTV Group has introduced a cloud-based route scheduling solution it calls PTV Route Optimiser.
The tool is engineered to make it easy to schedule deliveries, calculating the best route and balancing the usage of the fleet – no matter where you are.
PTV Route Optimiser automatically schedules orders for optimized routes, taking into account all relevant restrictions, such as truck attributes, depot opening hours, driving times, the number of vehicles, the type of freight or customer-specific time windows for delivery. What’s more, routes for an entire fleet can be scheduled at once, preventing errors and reducing planning time to minutes.
The approach is also being targeted beyond fleets to drivers, depots and logistics networks. It works by linking the warehousing and transport systems with a company’s sales process. In addition, the software makes proposals on how to increase efficiency, for example by adjusting the core fleet, improving the mix of vehicles, saving vehicles by double shifting them or by combining collections with deliveries.
It also allows for seasonal planning with peaks and troughs and helps to reduce the carbon footprint by saving distance travelled and resources.
The company reports user savings on average of 10 percent on their fleet costs, with many reporting that figure is in excess of 25 percent.
Currently, more than 2,500 cities deploy PTV products. Trips and routes for over one million vehicles are planned with the company’s software.
