FMCSA Exempts Some Construction Vehicles
GeoSpace Labs is the first ELD vendor to release this revised functionality in its ELD designed specifically for the construction industry
The FMCSA issued two additional Electronic Logging Device (ELD) exemptions for the construction industry. The exemptions allow drivers of ready-mix concrete deliver vehicles from 49 CFR 395.3(a)(3)(ii) for a 30 minute break requirement, and extends 49 CFR 395.1(e)(1)(ii)(A) from 14 hours from 12 hours.
“We have become experts in market verticals and providing hours of service technology designed specifically for how different drivers work based upon the market, vehicle specifications, and property being transported,” noted Dr. David Lady, President of GeoSpace Labs.
The Construction specific ELD is designed around how drivers in this market work, enhancing traditional hours of service logging with tools specific to the exemptions available to these drivers.
“We have found that generic ELD tools tend to gloss over exemptions and treat all drivers like they are long haul over the road carriers. We instead focus on helping the drivers maximize usage of exemptions, as allowed, so they can maximize their driving and productivity,” concluded Dr. Lady.
The FMCSA exemptions are well thought out and allow drivers extra latitude for safety, while focusing on productivity. Using an ELD specific to the market and processes a driver uses, like the Construction ELD, provides drivers powerful tool and a competitive advantage.
