Google self-driving cars learning to honk: for real!
Google’s self-driving cars are already growing up, and learning a bit of moxie in the process.
According to recent reports, company engineers have been working on teaching their autonomous vehicles the subtle “art” of honking.
Makes sense if you need to gently alert someone on the road who does not seem to pay attention.
In a company report, Google notes that engineers have programmed the car’s computer to understand which road situations might require a toot, sometimes soft, other times strong.
“Our goal is to teach our cars to honk like a patient, seasoned driver,” says a Google report according to USA Today. “As we become more experienced honkers, we hope our cars will also be able to predict how other drivers respond to a beep in different situations.”
