How Uber is Permanently Changing the Cab Fleet Business

When ride sharing juggernaut Uber recently announced the launch of its business model in four additional Kansas cities, it not only paved the way for more jobs and inexpensive rides in that state, it also heralded the continued expansion of a permanent transformational change in the cab fleet world.

Consider this: Uber and its smartphone application now connects drivers and riders in more than 300 cities across the world.

What’s more, the company notes that “50,000 driver jobs are generated by the Uber platform every month.”

So, far beyond the economic development supported by Governor Sam Brownback in Kansas, Uber has forever changed how people hail a taxi and the way in which cab drivers approach their industry. In short, the sharing business model make everything up for grabs – big time.

It’s also based on a simple but effective approach: Uber is a smartphone application that connects drivers and riders and its powerful ridesharing app connects people who need a ride with a driver who uses his or her own car and has passed local, state and federal background checks.

When a rider requests a ride through the free Uber smartphone app, he or she sees available cars on a map. The nearest driver is alerted of the ride request and is given the rider’s pick up location. The rider then receives detailed information about the driver, including his or her first name, photo and Uber rating, and the vehicle’s make, model, and license plate number.

In fact both the rider and driver can have a direct line of contact to one another if needed. When the rider reaches his or her destination, they are automatically charged for the ride through a seamless, cashless transaction.

The rider immediately receives an electronic receipt via email — and the future is here.
