Hyundai Selects Verizon for Its Next-Generation Connected Cars

Verizon connected carHyundai Motor America has selected Verizon for its next-generation connected cars — referred to in the industry as telemactics.

The range of solutions include safety, security, diagnostics and infotainment, which will be present in Hyundai vehicles starting in 2014.

“We selected Verizon to provide the wireless network service for ‘Next-generation Blue Link’ because both customer opinion and various data sources indicate that Verizon provides the best solution to our customers for both coverage and quality,” said Woo-Young Kwak, executive vice president, Vehicle IT Service Division/Vehicle IT Development Center, Hyundai Motor Group.

Hyundai vehicles are distributed throughout the United States by Hyundai Motor America and are sold and serviced through more than 820 dealerships nationwide. Recently, Hyundai beat out every competitor to earn the distinction of “Most Reliable Manufacturer” in the 2013 CarMD® Vehicle Health Index™ Manufacturer & Vehicle Reliability Ranking.

According to Forrester Research*, the number of vehicles shipped worldwide with embedded connectivity is expected to grow from 5.4 million in 2012 to 36 million in 2018.
