Koch Trucking is Driving Health and Wellness with Rolling Strong
Asset-based truckload carrier rolls out mobile app and lifestyle improvement competitions for drivers and administrative staff
Rolling Strong, the provider of health and wellness programs for transportation companies and their drivers, as well as owner-operators, today announced that Koch Trucking, Inc., an asset-based truckload carrier, is providing its wellness program to about 1,200 drivers and administrative staff.
“We know that maintaining personal health can be a challenge so for the past year we’ve been looking for a partner who could help everyone improve their quality of life at work and at home,” said Angela Scanlon, human resources director at Koch Trucking. “After our benefits broker told us about Rolling Strong, we were impressed with their approach and success so we decided to collaborate with them to provide a wellness program that is designed for the transportation industry. At Koch Trucking we truly care about our employees’ well-being, and since its launch Rolling Strong has helped thousands of individuals live a healthier lifestyle.”
The Rolling Strong Wellness Program, a mobile app that has a set of tools designed to create healthier habits, was introduced at Koch Trucking in conjunction with American Heart Month 2021, a program from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention that aims to help people focus on their cardiovascular health. The program is being made available to the carrier’s administrative staff and its 850 company drivers.
“Drivers are a rare commodity these days, so we hope this program will help achieve our main goal, which is to keep them driving,” Scanlon stated. “We know that maintaining personal health on the road can be difficult so we want to encourage drivers to adopt healthier lifestyles. Unhealthy habits have taken too many of them out of the game on extended medical leaves, or they have sadly passed away at a young age. Rolling Strong is a program designed for drivers that has helped thousands lose weight, lower blood pressure, and successfully recertify their CDL medical cards. With it, we believe they will be able to take better care of themselves.”
The Rolling Strong mobile app provides a wide set of tools designed to improve health and wellness. With a Health Risk Assessment Questionnaire it helps identify areas for improvement. App users can monitor their hydration, nutrition, fitness activity, sleep and weight, and have access to Rolling Strong health and wellness coaches for advice.
For drivers specifically, Koch Trucking is providing Rolling Strong’s RS Flex system, which creates an in-cab workout gym and promotes building core strength, muscle toning, weight management, flexibility and improved cardiovascular health. RS Flex connects low impact resistance bands to various connection points in the truck while the app guides users through workout routines.
Other driver focused features of the Rolling Strong app include:
· Links to find healthy meals on the road
· A social network with thousands of other truckers
· DOT medical certification reminders and re-certification prep support
· Access to a nationwide network of health related services
Rolling Strong is also taking the lead in providing users at Koch Trucking with competitions that can be accessed in the app and allow them to win awards for meeting certain health, wellness and fitness criteria. Koch Trucking is providing prizes for engagement and participation, including tumblers, wearables and gift cards.
Koch Trucking, Inc., based in Minneapolis, operates a fleet of over 840 tractors and 2,000 trailers. The carrier is made up of seven divisions and affiliates that offer a full slate of transportation services, including long haul and regional truckload freight hauling, dedicated contract carriage, logistics, warehousing, and truck and trailer leasing. These include Koch NationaLease, Koch Logistics, GW Transportation Services, United Trailer Leasing, Koch Maritime, JBS Logistics, and DCMI.
“Spending many years on the road in a semi taught me how easy it can be to let your health decline in this profession,” said Stephen Kane, president of Rolling Strong. “That’s why our wellness program is designed with tools and resources for maintaining and improving health. We are grateful for this partnership with Koch Trucking and look forward to having everyone at the company join us on a journey to optimal health.”
