Los Angeles port truck drivers from four of Los Angeles’ leading drayage firms will be going on a 48-hour strike.

The drivers are “demanding an end to violations of workers’ rights and the pervasive and illegal misclassification as ‘independent contractor.’ ”

According to the group, port truck drivers “work long hours hauling nearly $4 billion worth of cargo every day, yet often receive paychecks below the minimum wage.”

Drivers are, as they describe, “rising up, to improve their jobs and rebuild the ever diminishing middle-class.”

Through a series of rulings by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE), and California’s Employee Development Department (EDD), drivers have found their voice and are hosting a press conference at a park across from one of the busiest port marine container terminals to speak out on the details of the strike.
