March Volumes of Used Trucks up 8%; Pricing Founders

| April 29, 2014

Used Class 8 TrucksThe volume of used Class 8 trucks sold in March rose 8% above February’s volume, according to the latest data from ACT Research.

Steve Tam, Vice President-Commercial Vehicle Sector with ACT, noted that growth came from the auction and wholesale markets, while the retail market contracted.

Meanwhile pricing foundered in March, experiencing its first sequential drop in six months. “Although prices remained stronger on a year-over-year basis, a spate of older, higher mileage units took its toll, at least in the short run,” said Tam.

The report from ACT provides data on the average used price for the top-selling Class 8 model for each of the major truck OEM’s – Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo).
