Market Demand Index weekly measure of relative truck demand in the spot market
Nationally the average spot market rate increased by 1.5%
Truckstop.com’s Market Demand Index provides a weekly measure of relative truck demand in the spot market by comparing overall load and truck availability. This week’s MDI increased 7.4% to a reading of 33.4 with further increases projected over the next month. This is great news for carriers because as MDI goes up, generally so will average spot rates. Nationally the average spot market rate increased by 1.5% to $2.12 per mile and those should continue to rise over the coming month as seasonal freight ramps up.
