Documenting a Real-World Electric Trucking Demonstration

Trucking is in the midst of a transformation as regulatory and societal pressures are causing the industry to look at ways to produce fewer emissions and lower its carbon footprint. While advancements in diesel engine technology have greatly reduce particulate emissions and NOx, to meet sustainability goals, will require alternative fueled vehicles, specifically those powered by batteries.

In order to obtain some real-world data on battery electric vehicles in commercial freight hauling applications, the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE), conducted Run on Less – Electric, a three-week demonstration with 13 electric vehicles operating in four market segments.

Electric Trucks Have Arrived: Documenting a Real-World Electric Trucking Demonstration is a report that shares the methods used to select the participating fleets, routes, and equipment, the metrics that were measured and details of the Run’s findings and lessons learned.

Key Takeaways There are four markets where electrification makes sense today The importance of standardization The need to understand terms like state of charge, consumption and efficiency Why duty cycles matter Drivers’ acceptance of EVs TCO ramifications of EVs
