Nassau Fire Apparatus Saves Millions through Use of Remounts

| August 12, 2014

ambulanceWith the last contracted ambulance in production as of July 2014, Nassau Fire Apparatus has reported that it has saved Nassau County, Long Island, New York, nearly $ 2 million by having ambulance remounts performed on its older vehicles instead of buying a brand new fleet.

According to some experts, ambulance remounters and specialists that revitalize older models by fitting an old ambulance on a new chassis can deliver savings up to $50,000 per vehicle.

The need is dramatic.

With many departments like Nassau County being forced to make a dwindling budget go further, Nassau Fire Apparatus recognized the need for more affordable ways to keep ambulance fleets in service for longer periods of time.

Implementing an ambulance remounting program seemed to be the path to more than double the life cycle of the group’s ambulances.

To date, 13 vehicles in its fleet have been updated.
