New Certification Program Ranks Fleet Fuel Efficiency

| February 18, 2014

FleetFPInnovations’ Performance Innovation Transport (PIT) group, a not-for-profit engineering and research group for the North American trucking industry, has announced a new certification program that fleets can use to quickly and accurately identify the fuel efficiency value of a technology.

Called PIT Power, it uses stringent testing protocols to reliably rank fuel efficiency. For suppliers, they can take advantage of this new certification process to demonstrate the real value of their technologies.

“With a long history of research activities in the forest industry’s transport sector, FPInnovations is proud to be working with the multi-national transport fleets in their efforts to improve fuel efficiency”, stated Pierre Lapointe, President and CEO of FPInnovations. “PIT Power is only one of many steps we are taking to lead the global sector towards an intelligent transport system”.

“We developed PIT Power based on our internationally recognized Energotest, which is the industry’s most accurate, independent and indisputable evaluation process of the return on investment fleets can expect from green technologies,” said Yves Provencher, director of PIT.

PIT Power provides suppliers who submit technologies for evaluation with the credibility associated with an exact, indisputable fuel economy ranking. The ratings start at 2, which indicates a 2% fuel savings, and have no upper limit. A supplier that receives a PIT Power rating will be able to demonstrate its achievement by posting the PIT Power logo on its technology. Fleets can look for technologies displaying PIT Power ratings as proof of performance.
