October Light Vehicle Sales Up, Led by Cross-overs and Trucks
In the “light-vehicle” segment of the transportation industry, crossover vehicles (CUVs) and trucks fueled growth in October.
October sales for the entire group were at a 15.2 million-unit seasonally adjusted annual rate, according to Wards Auto,
Topping the charts were trucks — up 10.1% and notching a 53.1% share of the market, strongly above same-month 2012 numbers of 51.3%. At the front was the Nissan Pathfinder CU, and GM’s four large SUVs combined for a 44.1% increase.
According to numbers from Wards, “Sales of small light vehicles in October declined from year-ago for the second straight month after 36 consecutive increases. The decline was mainly with cars, as small CUVs increased a robust 38.1% on big gains from the Subaru XV Crosstrek, Jeep Compass and Patriot and Nissan Juke. Small SUVs, accounting for a small fraction of the segment, were down 28.9%.”
