October Net Trailer Orders Post Solid Gain, Still Lag Last Year’s Levels
Preliminary estimates for U.S. net trailer orders for October 2016 stand at 21,050 units, a solid sequential gain but not a banner performance as compared to one year ago.
“Net trailer orders rebounded strongly in October, following a disappointing September. This preliminary report points to a sequential gain of over 60% for the month,” said Frank Maly, ACT’s Director CV Transportation Analysis & Research.
Maly continued, “It appears that dry vans provided major impetus last month. Despite the October surge, the 2016/17 order season continues to trail last year’s pace; October volume was approximately 37% behind the same month last year, and our analysis shows year-to-date orders off a similar percentage.”
He added, “It’s evident that fleets remain cautious regarding their purchase commitments, continuing to balance their cap-ex plans to current market conditions.”
