Preliminary Used Class 8 Volumes Ticked Up in January
ACT Research indicates a 4% increase in sales of Class 8 trucks
According to ACT Research, preliminary used Class 8 volumes (same dealer sales) improved moderately in January, rising 4% month-over-month, following two sequential declines, according to the latest preliminary release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks published by ACT Research. However, the report indicated that longer-term comparisons yielded a 19% decline compared to January 2018.
Other data released in ACT’s preliminary report included year-over-year comparisons for January 2019, which showed that average prices rose 10%, while average miles were relatively flat (-2%) and average age was higher.
According to Steve Tam, Vice President at ACT Research, “Our analysis suggests change is afoot in the transportation arena, as well as the new and used vehicle markets.” He continued, “Dealers need to remain vigilant, closely monitoring their markets for signs of change.”
