Ryder puts new Actros into Relyon fleet

| May 20, 2013

Thirteen Mercedes-Benz Actros 1842LS Euro 5 tractor units have entered the fleet of renowned beds manufacturer, Relyon, under a five year contract hire deal with Ryder.

The new trucks join an existing fleet of more than 55 trucks, tractors and trailers supplied by Ryder for nationwide retail delivery operations from Relyon’s Devon and Somerset factories.

Raylon“We’ve been a contract hire customer since Ryder first entered the UK market in 1971,” comments Laurie Farley, Relyon’s Logistics Manager, “And we recently worked together to find high specification tractor units that would return the best fuel economy figures when operating at 28 tonnes GVW . The new Actros proved to be an all-round winner.

“We deliver to retailers from Cornwall to the north of Scotland and our trucks clock up high mileage so fuel economy was a crucial factor in vehicle choice.  In addition, it was felt that the new Actros gave us the best possible brand presence on the high street.”

The new tractors will be used in conjunction with 34-step frame trailers. The largest trailers are used for bulk customer deliveries and those deliveries to distribution centres, whilst smaller trailers are used for direct deliveries to retailers in smaller towns.  Ryder also supplies Relyon with a fleet of 7.5-tonne trucks which are used primarily for deliveries to stores in London. All the vehicles in the Relyon fleet are maintained and serviced by a dedicated Ryder workshop on-site at Relyon’s Wellington, Somerset, location.

Ryder’s Own Account Sales Director, John Rice, comments, “Working with Relyon for more than four decades has seen our relationship develop into a close partnership.  We know how important it is to deliver the most cost-effective solution to Relyon’s operational requirements.  The new trucks are the direct result of our expertise in operating and evaluating a wide range of products to determine those that are the best fit for a specific operational requirement.

“Our ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of Relyon’s business is reinforced by our dedicated on-site workshop facilities which ensure that the entire fleet is maintained to the highest standards and always ready for and fit work, which in turn maximises Relyon’s operational efficiencies.”
