Ryder to Sponsor 2013 Alternative Clean Transportation Expo
Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a leader in commercial transportation and supply chain management solutions, announced that it is a platinum sponsor of the 2013 Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, North America’s largest alternative fuel and clean vehicle technology conference and expo.
In addition, two of the company’s executives, Scott Perry, Vice President of Supply Management for Ryder, and Chris Nordh, Senior Manager Alternative Fuels & Finance for Ryder, will be speaking on a panel at the event. The panel, titled “Fleet Perspective: Critical Issues for the Road Ahead,” will take place on June 27 at 8 a.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. The panel will explore the rationale, lifecycle costs and other considerations that go into the investment decisions being made by top fleets. It will also explore the economic influences shaping the market and help define the essential elements of a business case required for investment and growth in the advanced transportation technology arena.
Mr. Perry will discuss how fleets can evaluate the total cost of ownership for heavy-duty natural gas vehicles. Mr. Nordh will discuss how to facilitate the deployment of alternative fuel vehicle fleets by leveraging outsourced transportation solutions such as rental and leasing.
Ryder became the first outsourced fleet provider to offer heavy duty natural gas vehicles for the leasing and rental industry through a groundbreaking natural gas vehicle project with the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) in Southern California. Ryder’s partnership with SANBAG and the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Clean Cities Coalition includes the deployment of 202 heavy duty natural gas-powered vehicles, made available to customers for rent or lease or through Ryder’s dedicated logistics services. As part of the project, Ryder recently opened two natural gas refueling stations in Fontana and Orange, CA. Additionally, Ryder has equipped three maintenance facilities for the indoor servicing of natural gas vehicles in Fontana, Orange, and Rancho Dominguez. The $38.7 million project was funded as part of a joint public/private industry partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy, the California Energy Commission, and Ryder. Ryder has deployed more than 300 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) vehicles with more than 40 Ryder customers in California, Michigan, Arizona, and Louisiana.
