Trucker Path Acquired by Chinese-based Social Networking Firm
The Beijing-based social networking and internet finance company Renren Inc. has announced that it has agreed to acquire 100% of social platform Trucker Path — a mobile application and website for U.S. drivers with services that delivers trip-planning and trucking community sourced information.
It appears to be a move by Renren into the dynamic transportation sector, with an eye on autonomous driving.
According to Joseph Chen, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Renren,
“Currently, the two major emerging technology areas are artificial intelligence and blockchain. With the acquisition of the Trucker Path social platform and the Truckloads freight marketplace, the Company (RenRen) will be well-positioned technologically to drive innovation within this important industry.”
TheTrucker Path app also provides users with real-time information, including available parking spaces, rest areas on a given route as well as the status of weigh stations.
In terms of metrics, Trucker Path reportedly generates 600,000 monthly users, which may represent up to one-third of long haul truckers in the U.S.
RenRen also reports that the Truckloads app, a freight load matching platform, “sees more than 3 million loads posted every month.”
