Used Class 8 Truck Same Dealer Sales Up in May
Class 8 same dealer used truck sales volumes notched an unexpected rebound in May, making up for last month’s decline, according to ACT Research.
“While volumes generally begin to fall off as summer approaches, May’s volumes were up month-over-month, offsetting a portion of April’s decline,” said Steve Tam, Vice President at ACT Research. He continued, “With used truck prices stabilizing, it appears that truckers could be starting to take advantage of the low prices.”
Dealers are reporting that used truck sales appear to be showing signs of improvement, which is welcomed news. “Although there continues to be an oversupply of used trucks, the mood of the used truck business is improving,” said Tam. “There is still an excess of late model aerodynamic sleeper trades in inventory, a fact that continues to cause concern among truckers and financers,” he concluded.
The report from ACT provides data on the average selling price, miles, and age based on a sample of industry data. In addition, the report provides the average selling price for top-selling Class 8 models for each of the major truck OEMs – Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo).
