Users Rolls Full Speed Ahead with Driverless Car Testing

In what may be a signal of Uber’s ultimate intentions — an enormous fleet of cars with no drivers — the company acknowledged in a recent blog post that it is testing autonomous vehicles.

Apparently it’s already happening in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

So, be on the lookout for a hybrid Ford Fusion making its way through the city collecting mapping data and testing its self-driving capabilities. A trained driver will be in the car monitoring operations at all times.

The car is apparently loaded with multiple cameras, lasers and sensors; and can see as far as 100 yards in any direction.

The car was produced at Uber’s Advanced Technologies Center (ATC), also in Pittsburgh.

In the same car-sharing arena, Lyft has also launched a long-term business partnership with General Motors dedicated to self-driving cabs.
