W.B. Mason Unveils First All-Electric Workhorse Delivery Truck
W.B. Mason Co., Inc., the second largest privately owned office products dealer in the United States, and Workhorse Group Inc., an American technology company focused on providing electric mobility solutions to the commercial transportation sector, announced the first of its new Workhorse all-electric, range-extended step vans.
Also announced are the plans to lease Workhorse E-GEN vehicles through Ryder System, Inc., a leader in commercial fleet management, transportation and supply chain solutions. Ryder is the primary distributor and provider of service and support for Workhorse’s light and medium duty range-extended electric vehicles in North America.
W.B. Mason’s step vans will be deployed in early 2018 in the “Masonville” region covering the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast United States from Virginia to Maine.
“W.B. Mason is a national leader in last-mile delivery, and their sophisticated body designs demonstrate their innovation in vehicles,” said Steve Burns, chief executive officer of Workhorse. “The adoption of Workhorse E-GEN step vans takes that innovation a step further with the integration of cutting-edge, sustainable electric transportation.”
Workhorse’s E-GEN step van demonstrates 40 MPGe fuel efficiency in on-the-road applications, which reduces vehicle emissions by 75 percent and is six times more efficient than conventional step vans. E-GEN provides an average range of 120 miles on a single charge, with 60 miles all-electric utilizing Panasonic Li-Ion battery packs, and an additional 60 miles using the integrated BMW range extender. Workhorse’s proprietary chassis design, powertrain, battery management system and real-time Metron telematics system provide reliable performance and optimize driver efficiency.
“Our partnership with Workhorse enables Ryder to offer strategic customers such as W.B. Mason the most innovative fleet solutions available in the market,” said Scott Perry, chief technology and procurement officer for fleet management solutions at Ryder.
