XL Hybrids Installs Electric Drive System in Boston-area College
XL Hybrids, Inc., a pioneering developer of hybrid electric powertrain technology for commercial and municipal fleets, has announced th installation of its XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System in passenger vans for Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts.
According to the XL, the “vans will provide a 25 percent increase in miles per gallon and 20 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions to the private institution.”
The project was funded by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources as part of the Massachusetts Clean Cities initiative, and will include passenger vans, as well as a shuttle bus scheduled to be on the road in March.
“This project with Mass. Clean Cities allows Lasell College to benefit from the same XL Hybrids technology being used successfully by leading commercial fleets, including Coca-Cola and FedEx, and municipal fleets such as The City of Boston,” said Clay Siegert, vice president and co-founder of XL Hybrids.
Lasell has a taken a lead in the area of sustainability efforts and intends to deploy more XL Hybrids vehicles in the future.
