Big Rig Orders Up, Supply Chains Can’t Keep Pace

Big Rigs

If you’re planning on adding new trucks to your fleet, get ready to shift into neutral.

Here’s what’s up: Truck manufacturers simply can’t keep up with the high demand for new heavy-duty trucks. According to industry analysts, the backlog on orders for big rigs is the largest since 2006. In fact orders are expected to break records for this year and delivery of new orders is expected well into 2019.

ACT Research reported that North American freight-haulers ordered more than 300,000 Class 8 trucks in the first seven months of this year and is on track to order a record 450,000 of the heavy-duty vehicles for the full year.

July was all-time monthly record in North America with more that 52.000 trucks ordered.

New trucks get better fuel mileage and are a tool to recruit new drivers in this strong U.S. economy.
