Blizzard Halts Travel from New York to Boston As snow continued to fall early Tuesday, Mass transit systems remained shut down from New York City to Boston this morning and most roads were closed parts of five states.

Airlines canceled thousands of flights as the much-anticipated blizzard took aim at the Northeast.

Snowfall totals have reached up to 17 inches so far in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with 15 inches reported in Islip, New York.

As for the amount of snow, it was a well below the hype. Snowfall totals measured in New York (7 inches), Boston (8 inches) and Philadelphia (2 inches) have come up far short from some estimates that had predicted called more than two feet of snow.

But don’t put away your sleds yet, more is expected on Tuesday morning.
