Canadian Freight Index Starts to Climb in October

Canadian Freight UpThe Canadian Freight Index started to climb in October according to the TransCore Link Logistics Canadian Freight Index, which showed improvement in October with month-over-month load volumes increasing by seven percent compared to September.

Year-over-year load volumes also surpassed the previous year’s by eight percent.

Cross-border load volumes averaged 68 percent of the month’s total. Cross-border loads originating in Canada destined to the United States saw a 15 percent increase from the same period last year. Cross-border loads originating in the United States destined for provinces within Canada were up marginally by one percent year-over-year compared to October 2012.

Intra-Canada load volumes represented 26 percent of the total volume for October and were up seven percent year-over-year.

Equipment postings for October increased by 10 percent from last month’s levels and were four percent above last year’s levels for the same period. The equipment-to-load ratio increased in October to 2.63 from 2.56 in the previous month.

Information within the freight index includes all domestic, cross-border and interstate data submitted by Loadlink’s Canadian-based customers.
