EPA Funding to Clean Up Diesel Engines

| May 13, 2014

Diesel trucksThe Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a $9 million funding opportunity for the National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program.

The funds will be targeted for use to reduce diesel pollution and emissions exposure from the nation’s existing fleet of diesel engines. According to EPA, proposal submissions deadline is June 17.

Eligible uses of funding includes buses, medium or heavy duty trucks, as well as marine engines and locomotives. Certain non-road engines and vehicles may qualify as well.

The need is clear. Research shows that while diesel engines are extremely efficient, they also emit air pollutants and particulate matter. These have been linked to a range of serious health problems.
