International Cargo Securement Month resources help prep for CVSA International Roadcheck

Leading cargo control technology manufacturer Kinedyne LLC is offering free training resources, including a webinar and a white paper, as part of its sponsorship of International Cargo Securement Awareness Month in May.

Kinedyne launched International Cargo Securement Awareness Month in 2017 to help truck drivers learn how to properly secure cargo in preparation for the annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) International Roadcheck. The International Roadcheck 2021 runs May 4-6. Over that 72-hour period, vehicle inspectors across the United States, Canada and Mexico will inspect commercial vehicles to ensure their systems – including cargo securement – comply with regulations.

During International Roadcheck 2020, CVSA reported that almost 13 percent of the 50,000 inspected vehicles were taken out of service. Cargo securement was the 4th most common violation and over 1,500 were sidelined because they failed to meet basic cargo control requirements. Fleets and owner-operators who want to make sure their cargo control will pass inspection can check out Kinedyne’s new webinar, “Command Your Cargo: Best Practices for Securement,” airing live at 2 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, April 28. During the session, Jeff Luick, Kinedyne account executive, will walk around a commercial truck highlighting key elements of cargo securement that inspectors will examine during the International Roadcheck.

The webinar will cover cargo securement best practices and will include:

  • An overview of trucking cargo regulations
  • How to identify the potential for cargo shifting
  • How to calculate the required cargo control
  • Indirect vs. direct tie-downs
  • How to prepare for – and pass – a roadside inspection.

Kinedyne is also offering a free white paper “Cargo Securement: A Guide to Cargo Control Regulations.” It covers proper cargo securement; information about the forces that might cause cargo to shift, slide or fall off the trailer; the reasoning behind various cargo securement regulations; and methods to secure loads that are strong enough to withstand the forces of emergency braking or evasive maneuvers made on the road.

“As an industry leader in designing, manufacturing and testing a full line of DOT-compliant cargo control equipment, Kinedyne is committed to providing guidance to our customers to ensure they have the knowledge they need to meet their obligation to properly secure their loads, not just for their own safety, but for the safety of everyone on the road,” says Roger Perlstein, vice president – sales and marketing.
