Lyft and GM to Partner on Self-Driving Cars

If Lyft and GM have their way, someday soon you could get picked up in a Lyft car and immediately notice a big change — the driver’s seat is empty.

GM is so bullish on the idea it has committed a $500 million investment to the concept.

The way it works now, Lyft drivers are alerted when a passenger requests a ride via an easy-to-use app.  That’s nice at the moment, but the appetite for autonomous driving is growing, and growing fast.  Players including Lyft, Google, Uber, Tesla and more are all keen to make it happen — and get their first.

“We see the future of personal mobility as connected, seamless and autonomous,” noted GM President Dan Ammann. ”With GM and Lyft working together, we believe we can successfully implement this vision more rapidly.”
