New Class 7 Propane Truck from Alkane

Alkane is trumpeting what it reports to be the first and only Class 7 propane-fueled truck available to the North American in that heavy weight class.

For customers that previously needed a Class 7 truck (26,001-33,000 GVW), the Propane industry seemed void, according to Alkane,  when competing against CNG.  But with the launch of the Alkane platform, the field has been leveled and there are several factors when considering the vehicle.

Issues potential users evaluate include horsepower, performance and fuel economy when comparing to CNG. Alkane claims: “Propane is about as equivalent as you can get to diesel at a fraction of the fuel costs.”

Federal rebates per gallon for both Propane and CNG is 35 cents and the State of Georgia offers an attractive tax Incentive.  Superior Energy Systems AutoGas refuel centers are installed for convenient and fast fueling by Georgia Gas Distributors.

Alkane Truck based in Myrtle Beach, S.C., is assembling the vehicles at its Summerville, S.C., facility and it has trucks available now through a network of nationwide dealers.  The Power Solutions International 8.8 L engine and Allison transmission delivers a Class 7 cab-over truck delivering the same torque at 1,500 rpms as comparable diesel engines at a fraction of the cost of operation according to the company.
