North American Freight Shipments Remain Negative

| March 13, 2020

Coronavirus creates doubt that Q2 will see previously predicted turnaround

Highlights from February’s indexes:

  • North American freight volumes improved from January, but fell 7.5% year over year in February
  • Truckload linehaul rates fall to lowest point since September 2017
  • Intermodal shipping costs at lowest point since December 2017
  • Impact of coronavirus is just beginning

As a reminder, historical data points for the truckload and intermodal cost indexes were restated in November as part of an algorithmic update.
