Nuvera Fuel Cells and Urban Mobility Systems to Power Zero-Emission Vehicles
Powered by hydrogen, Nuvera® fuel cell products are integrated into electric powertrains for material handling and port equipment, buses, trucks, stationary equipment and maritime vessels
Nuvera Fuel Cells, LLC, a provider of heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell engines for on- and off-road mobility, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Netherlands-based clean technology engineering company Urban Mobility Systems (UMS). The MOU includes the initial sales of Nuvera® E-Series Fuel Cell Engines to UMS and an agreement to explore the development, sales and support of standardized zero-emission fuel cell powertrains for commercial applications. As part of the MOU, UMS will work closely with Nuvera on the development, testing, and deployment of Nuvera’s 125 kW fuel cell engine.
“Nuvera fuel cell engines are ideal for many zero-emission applications that need extended range and fast refueling,” says Nuvera CEO Lucien Robroek. “UMS and Nuvera share the same vision of ‘just getting it done.’ UMS has a great track record of developing and building certified electric platforms for a diversity of demanding customers – not just as prototypes but also in first production series for use in challenging industrial applications.”
UMS CEO Lars Kool adds, “At Urban Mobility Systems we take great pride in solid electrification solutions that can be built and deployed efficiently in on- and off-road vehicles. Adding fuel cell capability is the right thing to do for many use cases where battery power alone is not sufficient or is less practical. With Nuvera we have access to top technology in series-produced fuel cell engines. The product’s availability fits perfectly with UMS’s approach to provide a short time-to-market for modern electrification solutions.”
Powered by hydrogen, Nuvera® fuel cell products are integrated into electric powertrains for material handling and port equipment, buses, trucks, stationary equipment and maritime vessels. Nuvera E-Series Fuel Cell Engines afford the functionality and system interfaces that manufacturers expect from mechanical drivetrains powered by diesel internal combustion engines.
In collaboration with Urban Mobility Systems, Nuvera continues to grow its European presence and global capabilities to electrify vehicles and equipment using advanced fuel cell technology.
