Touch-Based Alcohol Interlock Takes Show Honors

Sober Steering, a touch-based alcohol interlock developer that has engineered technology to prevent drunk driving was named one of the Top Ten Automotive Startups at the Los Angeles Auto Show’s Connected Car Expo (CCE).

The company’s sensors, inserted directly into a steering wheel of a vehicle, have proven that alcohol can be detected at the palm of the hand in less than five minutes after initial ingestion. If alcohol is detected above a preset limit, the vehicle is immobilized.

Random retests ensure the driver maintains sobriety while en route. Its Zero Tolerance System is designed for fleets like school buses, coaches, hazmat, and construction vehicles.

Noted Catherine Carroll, COO of Sober Steering, “Through the rapid integration of new and inter-connected technologies, cars are becoming smarter and safer, providing people with a better driving experience. Just like seatbelts and airbags, we envision Sober Steering’s biosensors becoming standard feature in all cars to prevent drunk driving. By integrating our biosensors into a new generation of connected cars, we look forward to working with the automotive industry to develop vehicles that not only withstand crashes, but also pro-actively prevent them”
